WELCOME TO SPANCAST
THE LEADERS IN PRECAST & PRE-STRESSED CONCRETE

Nobody knows more about building with precast architectural and structural products than our team located in Arima (East Trinidad) – where we have a fully computerized batching plant and sales and support offices on roughly ten (10) acres of land.

Our in-house Drafting and Engineering Department offers design / build resources and expertise to help you construct beautiful buildings on time and within budget. We back you with reliable services, including application advice, layout options, preliminary engineering, budget pricing, and value engineering.

01
Flooring Systems

Whether used for floors or roofs Spancast Hollowcore Planks provide superior life cycle benefits, Thermal ratings, STC ratings and fire ratings that cannot be matched by traditional methods of construction.

02
piles

Piles made from these materials are driven, drilled or jacked into the ground and connected to pile caps.

03
STRUCTURAL SYSTEMS

Structural Beams and Column components are produced under factory conditions and as a result they are not only considered stronger and more consistent than site poured members but also ‘fit’ better and more accurate.

OUR SERVICES
flooring systems

Contec Floor Joist are prestressed like concrete bridges for strength.

structural systems

This system combines well with precast walls and floors and roof planks to provide a totally precast system that is ideal for offices, schools and correctional
facilities.

Criblock Retaining Walls

Landslide Prevention: Criblock retaining walls use gravity and its interlocking modular structure to contain the soil and prevent erosion.

roadworks

This total precast system is very competitive when compared to other bridge systems because it is not only stronger and more consistent but erects quickly.

Bridge Components

The integral bridge deck also eliminates expensive formwork providing a ready surface for either asphalt or the pouring of a composite concrete topping as dictated by design.

stadium risers

Stadium risers are produced by Spancast with a standard 1075mm tread. The rise in the precast unit ranges between 300mm and 600mm.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Is precast concrete a green building material?

Precast concrete contributes to green building practices in significant ways. The low water-cement ratios possible with precast concrete (in the range of 0.36 to 0.38) mean it can be extremely durable. The thermal mass of concrete allows shifting of peak heating and cooling loads in a structure to help reduce mechanical-system requirements. Because precast concrete is factory-made, there is little waste created in the plant (most plants employ exact-batching technologies) and it reduces construction waste and debris on site, reducing construction indoor air quality concerns. The load-carrying capacities, optimized cross sections, and long spans possible with precast concrete members help eliminate redundant members, and concrete readily accommodates recycled content.

Is precast concrete different from other types of concrete?

Precast concrete is different because it is made in a factory by highly experienced personnel who apply stringent quality-control measures. In the factory environment, precast producers are able to achieve consistency in temperature and moisture and low water-cement ratios that are not possible in field-fabricated concrete. Precast concrete can easily attain strengths of 5000 psi to 7000 psi or more, with densities that minimize permeability.

So what is pre-stressed concrete?

Prestressed concrete is a method for overcoming concrete’s natural weakness in tension. It can be used to produce beams, floors or bridges with a longer span than is practical with ordinary reinforced concrete. Prestressing tendons (generally of high tensile steel strand) are used to provide a clamping load which produces a compressive stress that balances the tensile stress that the concrete compression member would otherwise experience due to a bending load. Traditional reinforced concrete is based on the use of steel reinforcement bars, rebars, inside poured concrete. Prestressing can be accomplished in three ways: pre-tensioned concrete, and bonded or unbonded post-tensioned concrete. Manufacturing using long-line moulds gives economies in the labour required for production and, therefore, cost benefits to our customers.

How long can prestressed concrete span?

Prestressed girders are particularly economical when longer beam lengths are required; some types are suitable for spans of up to 200 feet. Prestressing the concrete reduces the size of the required cross-section and the depth of the beam. Contact us directly to determine the precast/prestressed techniques for your project.
